Econ 1BB3
Econ 1BB3 is all about Macroeconomics, unlike Econ 1B03, which is about Microeconomics. It is recommended that you take 1B03 first then 1BB3, but people did the opposite anyways.

Macroeconomics, according to Dictionary.com is:
The branch of economics dealing with...

It doesn't matter, the first 4 chapters are the same (introduction) and then it splits off into two different topics, one topic is Micro and the other is Macro.

Most people say Micro is easier than Macro. They are both introductory courses on economics, so you don't have to have any prior knowledge to do well in the courses.

- ECON 1BB3
Macro is a lot like Micro but definitely a bit more challenging. First, there are only podcasts (i.e. no lecture notes), meaning you'll have to take notes during the podcasts or find them somewhere on MacInsiders, LearnLink, etc. Second, while the first few weeks are the same material as Micro, I found the rest of it to be tougher. Third, there are more Aplia assignments, but at least they take your best "x" out of "y". Fourth, the tests have short answer sections as well. Fifth, you don't have as much access to material for test practice. Finally, I would definitely recommend reading the (online) textbook for this class, which is not at all necessary for Micro.

I took business in grade 10 but didn't take the economics course offered in grade 12 at my high school. I'm taking Econ 1BB3 first term as an elective. Will I struggle with it?

It's an introductory course. You can do well in it if you don't even know what economics is.

I just took this course, I'm looking forward to micro next term. This was definitely the easiest course of my term.

hi, i'm a first year life science student who is currently taking econ 1bb3 which should be a mark booster. i heard this course is very easy, however, there is only tests and exams now (assignments do not count for marks now). i have never taken any business course or econ 1b03, should i change my elective? without exam, is 12 still reachable? how difficult were the tests and exams.

thanks,
Tiffany

easy course, definitely 12able if you read the chapters in the textbook. the first two midterms (higher of the two is weighted 30% while the lower is worth 20%) are fairly straightforward, so there is no reason for you to get under a 90. I found the exam (50%) to be significantly harder. There were 80 MC questions and a few SA questions worth 10marks. The class average was the exam was in the 50s and the average for the SA section was 4.6/10. still 12able though.

Macro was definitely an easy course to 12 as long as you go to the prof's lectures and read the assigned readings

I remember my friends took both courses and thought 1BB3 was a bit more work than 1BB3, but a double digit grade is definitely possible with effort, just like any other class.
