Got everything I wanted except THTR&FLM 2CP3 CULTURE AND PERFORMANCE which in turn is a prereq for another course I wanted, THTR&FLM 3M03 ANALYZING ENTERTAINMENT CULTURE.
Why do you spurn me so?
But of course I thank our MUGSI overlords because 8/10 is not bad at all.

Oh yea, 8/10 classes is horrible. Wah wah wah. At least that makes you a full time student.

Textbooks = fail? Right, because Stewart's calculus is a horrible book and is only used at McMaster. Oh wait - it's used in tons of places and it's excellent, as are most of the textbooks. But I'd love to hear why suddenly 'all textbooks' are so bad.
Professors = fail? Is this, more or less than at any other school? Or do you really think every other University has amazing professors and Mac has horrible ones?
Protip: the professors you encountered in first year were deliberately chosen for their teaching ability, and not necessarily their research statistics (e.g., Hatala, who doesn't even have a phd). What more could you possibly want?
The only thing that's a definite fail at Mac is MUGSI/SOLAR. Everything else you listed is complete BS that could be rectified easily, or the complaints are so general and vague that they can't be applied to Mac alone.

This thread is hilarious for sure. Going through this for three years, I just kind of have to laugh at it all because my tears have dried up.

Two years ago things were different. Dr. Jacobs is by far the worst first year teacher ever. He has a virus fetish. Read the comments check the ratings on Rate My Prof. He is terrible as a first year teacher. Dr. Lock is good too but Hatala is wayy better. He honestly knows what we are going through as does Lock but I just love Hatala and the way he teaches.
|
The fact that Dr. Jacobs uses an example to teach the material makes him a good prof. I don't know about you, but throughout my entire education career I have learned through examples. I'm sure if Dr. Jacobs didn't use the influenza virus as an example, a lot of people wouldn't be able to take in the theory.

It's kind of unfortunate that people have had this bad of an experience, especially with an issue that could easily be addressed.

McMaster just doesn't really give a shit. They're kind of like, okay, students pick their courses and everything is sort of straightened out by the end, so who cares if they don't get the courses they want? We're still getting their money, ehehehe.
It's BS.

The thing that really makes me mad is I contacted the head of the department for my program to get open spots for compulsory courses, and was told to "keep checking MUGSI!"
Come on.
