The things about smoking (weed or otherwise) in your room:
1) You are committing the initial offense of smoking within a building... against Hamilton bylaws punishable with a hefty fine.
2) While decriminalized, you are still committing an offense while smoking weed. Again, a hefty fine.
3) To smoke inside a room you would have to be covering up smoke detectors... tampering with fire equipment in residence is another offence...
There are multiple offences related to smoking.
But the thing is, I haven't heard of people getting kicked out of residence for a single instance of smoking weed. It is largely treated as a major in itself and then the matter goes to the RM to sit down with the student and explore the consequences.
Now, if you happen to sell weed out of your room, punched a kid for trying to steal your weed, ran away from the cops, and trespassed by breaking into a building to hide... well that's pretty much going to get your ass kicked out of mac.

Yeah, I've never seen someone kicked out of residence for their first offence either...

i had an awesome time in res...
but there was one fellow who did get kicked out of residence last year, because he acquired 12 majors (i'm not kidding) and about $2000 dollars in fines.
the funny thing was, he made it to the beginning of april, but hes now not allowed into any mcmaster residence building.
i dont recommend pushing your luck that far.

From what I recall from first year, at least on my floor in Hedden, as long as your "drink" was in a sealed container (like a travel mug), then everything was cool.
