If you choose to go through with having a conflict in your schedule and those courses happen to have a test or exam schedule at the same time you won't be allowed to defer either. This is how they try to discourage people from taking two courses at the same time. So you risk getting a 0 on a test or exam if you choose to take conflicting courses.

This is why they release a master timetable though, you're supposed to check it and make sure you're choosing all courses you can take when you're on SOLAR. Its not their fault you didn't notice or pay attention and ended up taking courses that conflict.

Most professors are nice enough to let you write the early midterm though. The only real issue is the exam which can be worth a lot.

Oh no it's never a good idea to take both courses at the same time. And it's always a good idea to take a look at the master timetable before hand. Don't worry you will get used to these clashes and conflicts because they seem to happen often and many times there isn't much that you can do.

Good Luck
