High School/Grade 11/Summer School.
I'm currently in grade 11 & approaching the end of my 1st semester. Unfortuanately, I had the WORST teacher for math. Couldn't teach, rude, attitude, difficult tests, didn't answer questions, etc. Our class average is a 55 at the moment & exams are in 4 days. She just wrote notes, didn't explain them, gave us homework & a quiz/test within 3-4 days. She rushed through the entire textbook. Anyways, to prove I'm being completely honest about this.. I have a tutor & I'm currently getting a 63. Same goes for my friend who has a tutor & is getting a 45. Others are getting a 38, 50, 46, etc. I want to apply to kinesiology @ MAC next year (grade 12 year) & I was wondering if I repeated the functions course I'm taking now, in summer school, will McMaster not accept me or deduct a percentage off my average for next year? Or do they only look at grade 12 marks? Also, will they base their decision off of my original grade (63%) or my summer school final?

They only look at your grade 12 marks, so nothing to worry about.
Just retake it in summer school if you want a higher mark.

Normally, the University looks at your grade 12 marks, but they are other times where they look at your Gr. 11 marks for early admissions. I repeated Gr 12 english online on my grade 12 year and they look at my highest mark between the two to count it in my transcript.

FTFY
Well, if you're getting bad marks in grade 11 (even if its your teacher's fault), you're not going to do nearly as well as you could in grade 12.
Theres no question, this future mark (for grade 12) will adversely affect your likelyhood of being accepted. I would strongly advise an upgrade. Also, complain about this teacher...

All of my other marks are fine (Physics, Religion & Hospitality). Its just math. I think I'm going to complain with other people in my class though. I wouldn't want her to screw up my chances of even applying to any university next year.

grade 11 marks are almost entirely irrelevant when applying for university, unless you're really antsy and want to know in December instead of February. i know, that in my case and in the case of many of my friends, we just did shit in gr11 (60s averages) and then grade12 rolled along, got low 90/high 80s averages and nothing mattered

i had something like low 60s almost across the board in grade 11 and my marks from grade12 took complete precedence
i didn't get early acceptance though, but i did get accepted in early february to mac, whereas some of my peers got in in march/april

Wait until you see your final grade. The school is going to see something odd in a 55% class average and may bump up everyone to a set amount.

Honestly stop stressing, enjoy gr 11 and leave the stress for gr 12. I don't think you really need to take it in summer school to be honest and I do not agree with people saying that you won't do as well in gr 12. I know where you are coming from because I had an incoherent teacher for gr 12 advanced functions, honestly I don't know how that man was allowed to teach and it was grade 12 so you can imagine I was freaking out a little bit as well. But all was fine in the end!

Don't stress!! They do not look at your gr11 marks. I was failing gr12 advanced functions in first semester of my final year of highschool. Dropped it. Took it again second semester (got ~85%). And STILL got early acceptance to Mac. And yes, that course was a prerequisite to get into my program.
Everything will be fine

While its nice to hear that theres no reason to stress, and that its all worked out in the end for some people, keep in mind that these anecdotes you're hearing are from people who have successfully entered university and are posting on a forum that a very small percentage of the population of students.
People who got screwed because they weren't dilligent enough, obviously will not be giving you any conflicting stories.

Yeah what RyanC is saying is also true. I think that the main reason for you taking the course over the summer should be for gaining a better understanding of the material if you're having trouble now. I'm saying this because it's true that they do not look at your gr 11 marks for your normal acceptance decision so I don't think it's worth it to take it again just for a higher grade, BUT if you had a hard time with the material then maybe you should take it again to understand it better. But having a low grade now in no way means you won't do well next year! That's always going to be determined by you!
