Honours Physics and Summer Courses
Any first years thinking of going into physics? Any upper years feel like telling us a bit about the program (classes, profs, workload, day to day life, etc...)?

I'm pretty set on it, so it's not like I need too much convincing. Just a realistic, "this is what to expect" and "don't make these mistakes."

Also, I'm going to be taking Math 1AA3 and Physics 1BB3 in term 2 of the summer. What's it like to take these classes in the summer? Are there still resources available or help hours to go to and get help if you need it?

Thanks

I took a calc class last year in the summer - you learn the same amount of material as you would during the normal school year, except the semester is essentially 1.5 months.
For my math class it was Mod and Wed. from 7-10 at night. I'm pretty sure most classes are like that. I had 3 tests and one final exam, which took place during class time.
Obviously, the class moves at a faster pace, so if know you suck at a certain subject, don't wait around until the test or w/e - try and stay on top of everything.
The prof's office hours and t.a were usually right before and sometimes even after the class, so thats still an option for recieving help.

Were there a lot of people in your class when you took it?

Uh, there were very few students in my class. Probably something around 30. I don't know if that is the standard size because I know some people dropped it.

2nd year physics is brutal. 3rd year is a bit better but the workload is intense. Classes are small and you get to know everyone. Department is well managed. IT would be the hardest challenge of your life for sure but in the end you can say " You have an English degree? MUAHAHA I have a physics degree"

Like Colin said, 2nd year Physics is brutal

Classes to look out for are Modern Physics and Elect. & Mag. Definatly look into taking the Scientific Computing course to bump up your average. Watch out for Thermo, the prof can put you to sleep but really woops your butt on the midterms and finals - be prepared for short answers and literally no math; labs are marked hard too!

Take 2nd year astronomy as its a breeze, and classical mech is not too bad.

As for third year, get ready to write gruesome lab reports for 3H03 - don't get behind on them. Inquiry is a great class thats taught well. Quantum mech is interesting yet the finals usually a pain. The Stellar structures class is not what was expected; the prof is not great imo.
