If so, how are the houses you've moved into so far (assuming you've 12-month-leased like I have... or you could speculate)

Creepy basement, Mice, Centipedes and lots of Daddy Longlegs ftw

Creepy basement, Mice, Centipedes and lots of Daddy Longlegs ftw | Me!! I love my new house! It's like a seven minute walk to campus, and the distance was probably the biggest concern for me when searching for off campus housing. And its pretty and smells good and clean b/c we are a bunch of clean freaks. Hopefully this lasts throughout the year.

We have a few of those icky centipede like things, but I just scream for my housemate and she deals with it |

 | I'm off campus but haven't moved in yet. My house is pretty close to campus, 6-7 minutes.

 | Wow, my house is 15 minutes to the hospital by foot... =/
Well I could lose a few pounds anyways, so it's all good.

I'm like 2 minutes from campus. Unfortunately it's the wrong side of campus (creepy ABB :o) |

Only difference is that I'm in a room next to a weird Slovakian guy that I don't really know, who apparently rages at everything and looks just like the angry German kid from youtube.

 | I'm living in a (thankfully much bigger) apartment with my boyfriend this year, about... 5 minutes on the bus? Like Whitney-Main-ish. :] It's going to be lots and lots of fun I think heehee. I know what you're thinking, living with the significant other never works, but we'd be besties even if things didn't work out. |

But we haven't found anything yet, because a lot of things are reserved for students (and since he's not a student, it's a bit more difficult) or demand like 4 months rent or something like that.

Have you considered cycling to Mac? That's awesome exercise during the nice weather. (: I bought myself a new En Route bike and being currently unemployed, am not getting many chances to use it.

(It's not like you can't have your own space regardless, you've just gotta be smart about it (: )

That'd be a dream for me, (moving in with my significant other, that is) but she's not ready for the responsibility of moving out yet...I'm hoping to have her crash here once in a while though. (: Last edited by Mowicz : 07-24-2009 at 03:20 PM.

 | Hmm, I actually only looked at one place in that area on Mericourt Rd. There's tons of apartments there that you could look into. The rent's like 629 + hydro at my building, so it's not as bad as Westdale and is probably a bit quieter as well. The landlord didn't seem to care if I was a student or not, he did ask though. He also was trying really hard to get me to take a 2 bedroom, so there's probably a bunch of vacancies there. Hmm, hopefully you find something. :]

Yeahh, I want to either walk or ride to school in the summer - not sure if I could handle it in the winter hahaha. It's definitely a good jump over to Mac.

Mmhmm, I've been with my bf for like six years so things like that are inconsequential. You should get your gf to crash a bunch of times, and let her see what it's like to be on her own with you. That's what happened to me. My boyfriend made me breakfast at his place one day, and I was sold haha. Nothing's better than having someone cook for you, other than your parents. |

They look kind of freaky, but they kill and eat cockroaches.... so would you prefer to have a cockroach infestation (extremely difficult to get rid of) or the occasional centipede run across your ceiling?

PS: I've been living in the same basement apartment just off of Main (behind Crabby Joes) for the past two years, going on three.

 | I like potatoes bugs. They take the little segments of food lying on my floor and sort of operate like tiny vacuum cleaners. Only problem is, they like to molt inside my desktop computer... which kind of makes a mess.

Cockroaches never were pests until one day someone decided to kill them >.>. Also, I have no idea why people think they are dirty, they are in fact clean. They need to keep clean in order to climb walls. Same thing with flies.

I'm not too worried about it, people will probably start slashing rent like mad mid-August or so and that's when the pot gets sweetened.

They eat your food, they leave droppings everywhere, they leave a bad stink, and they are vectors for dangerous microbes.
