Thanks for the suggestions,

To anyone who isn't yet on the mailing list, the reason people are suggesting names is because ratification of the club was delayed pending review of the name. Personally I think McMaster Firearm Association should sit better with the SRA. Some other ideas are McMaster Shooting Sports Club and McMaster Arms Association. I'll be at the next SRA meeting to work this out.

If you'd like to be on the list, PM or email me at [email protected].

Brian

Naturally I agree. They bashed the shortest name I could think of so I'm not opposed to having an obnoxiously long one.

The latter two should be okay with the members who had serious concerns, this was discussed for quite a bit.

Good news everyone!

Our club has been ratified! On January 9th, 2011 at approximately 21:00, Gordon Cheng (our Communication Officer) and I stood before the SRA as the club formerly known as McMaster Gun Club became ratified under the name McMaster Arms Association.

We owe our success to many, including but not limited to:
-Brittani Metlin, the MSU Clubs Administrator who really went above and beyond to help make this happen.
-All the people who expressed interest when this club was still just an idea.
-The unanimously supportive SRA. Special thanks to John McIntyre, Mary Koziol, Andrew Marlowe, and Huzaifa Saeed.

More updates will follow. If you'd like to join, send your email address, name and student number to [email protected] (we're still waiting on an official email account). As always, contact me should you have any questions or input, and tell your friends to launch an email at me if they're interested!

P.S. could a mod/admin please update the title of this thread?

Thank you,

Brian Nixon

I'm glad you guys changed the name. Though I have no problem with what the word "gun" entails, it would have been inaccurate for what I think your club is about. Guns are generally crew operated. A howitzer cannon, a mortar, or artillery are considered "guns". I assume your club deals more with rifles and pistols, which are technically not guns, but do fall under the more general category of arms.

Either way, congrats on ratification!

There's probably going to be a madman who used to be in this club and he's going to go around and shoot people. It happened at montreal, virginia tech and in many other schools. It's probably going to happen now. Wouldn't blame the gun club, but I'm just giving a warning.

I really hope you are joking! Being interested in getting a firearms license/gun safety/etc in no way entails violence.

That's like saying being interested in p"oh"rnography, playboy magazines and naked chicks doesn't entails sex.
