I first got in at about 1:30, after trying nonstop since 12:01. I managed to choose most of what I wanted, but being happy is not permitted, so it crashed and i had to restart. That happened another two times. Now, out of the 8 courses I wanted, I have 4. Whoopee. Thanks SOLAR.
I don't want to end up taking courses I don't want to. I don't pay mac thousands of dollars a year to study that which I'm not interested in. So I really hope more spaces open up as other programs get their turn on SOLAR.

Simply put, McMaster needs to put money into hiring more profs and building new classrooms/lecture halls (if needed, which I don't think it is.)

I got in at 12:01, only to have MUGSI time out on me. I got in again at 12:20, and for the next 45 minutes I tried to add all of my courses- SOLAR locked up on me every time, until I got kicked out of MUGSI. At about 1:00 I got back in, and (surprisingly) got to register in every course I wanted.
Nevertheless, it was a horrible experience all around.
Some suggestions:
1. Macro (if you know how) "alt+f4 - [time delay] - enter" to a certain key, then you will be able to keep trying to log into mugsi by pressing only a single key.
2. Use more than one source to log in... I was simultaneously using my computer and iPod to try to get in, double the odds I guess.
If you have a friend trying to log in:
This would work if you can add more than 10 courses, or if your friend is not taking a full year's worth- If your friend manages to get in, tell him/her to add the electives you think will be competitive on top of his/her regular term. Then you keep trying to log in while the friend stays at his/her comp. If you manage to get SOLAR up, message the friend and tell him/her to drop the course right before you go to add it. A spot should then be available.
Last Resort:
Give your friend who picked his/her courses your user and pass, and if worse comes to worse, he/she can act as your proxy and register for you if he/she gets in before you.

I agree, they are going about it in the wrong way. While I can see the convenience for them in this method, it would be better for the students if they allowed us all to choose the courses we would like. After, now they know the interest in the courses, they can set up the schedule to accomodate the interest in the course. Hire more profs if needed.
Whereas at present, we the students accomodate the limits on course capacity.
They cancel courses if there isn't enough interest in it, so why not do the opposite: if there is greater demand for a course, make it more available.
Obviously this is my wishful thinking after being abused by SOLAR, but I still believe it would be a better system :(

If you require a course to get your degree you're seeking (it isn't an elective course where you have a choice to take something else that may be open) then usually exceptions can be made so that you satisfy your course requirements. Just because a course is showing up as full does not mean it's full forever.

I think as an alternative to all the negativity around here, we should all talk about what we like about SOLAR and MUGSI rather than what we hate.
I'll go first: I like Mugsi because it's red coloured, and red is a cool colour
