I think you'll be ok signing the paper work yourself. I haven't seen anyone need to bring in their parents before...

Plus, you're the one giving the ok for OSAP to deposit money... so technically if you gave them a 'wrong account,' it was you that authorized that deposit of your money....

osap/payment agreement?
i'm not too sure where i should post this question, but i'll give it a try here.
so basically, i've applied for osap and i've called in to double check if everything was verified, and according to the finical aid department my osap has been issued and i have to go get it during september 2nd. however, when i did the payment agreement thing, i checked off the box where it says osap and did all the step and clicked confrim. after that it gave me an outline of how much everythin is added up to be, and at the end it says osap and certain amount was reduce yet my estimation for my osap was more than that. what's going on?

thank you for any information that is given!

You receive 60% of your osap entitlement in September and the other 40% in January.

beccam says thanks to jhan523 for this post.

I got a question. I am planning to pay the fees through online banking. So let's say that:

My total fees: $10 000
OSAP: $1000
Scholarship: $2000
so balance Forward: $7000

When I transfer the money do I pay $7000 (just the balance forward) or do I pay $8000 (total fees subtract the scholarship). or do I pay all of the $10 000 and the university will transfer $3000 to my account?

You will have to pay 7000$. Make sure to pay online by August 26th, to allow for processing time. After school starts you will have to claim your OSAP and sign something, so that the 1000$ will go into your student account - that will have to be done by September 30th.

Everybody who gets OSAP (at least everyone starting full-time in September) has that 60% September / 40% January stuff. Even if you select payment in full. Whatever OSAP money you see on the payment agreement is 60%. And you will have to sign a release ( after school starts, but before September 30th) indicating that that amount will go into your student account. That is why by Septembet 1st, if paying in full, you will have to pay the tuition minus OSAP minus scholarship. If you pay in full, the 40% will go back into your pocket in January. (Since you payed in full, but OSAP only released 60% of your entitlement in September)

okay this is mad confusing still. so say my tuition cost 14000 with meal plan and residence. osap 7000. forget scholarships and etc. i select payment in full. Do i pay mcmaster 14000 or do i pay them 7000 (14000-7000)? If we only pay 7000 and we have the 60% and 40% thing, when do i pay mcmaster the rest of the money?

Just look at your payment agreement after your checked off all the ways you'll pay (OSAP, Scholarships). The Balance Forwarded is the amount your have to pay mac by September 1st. You go and pick up your OSAP on September 2-12 (or 4-12 I forget) and as Nosferatu said, you have to sign a release indicating that the OSAP (60%) will go into your student account. In January you go and pick up the rest of your OSAP which is either directly deposited into your bank or a check is mailed to your home.

60% of your OSAP is automatically deducted from the amount you owe McMaster. The BALANCE FORWARD portion is what you must pay out of your own pocket. Second semester you'll recieve 40% of the OSAP which you can use to reimburse whatever you paid from your pocket. That goes straight to your bank you can use it for whatever you want. But if you want to pay the amount you owe in full, it must be done before september 1st (this is the amount in your BALANCE FORWARD).

You are supposed to post date to september 1st but yeah, any date before that should be fine.

When is the latest date to pay with OSAP since payment is actually due in Sept 1? What do we do after we get the loan? Do we pay through online banking? chequing? etc?

I'm assuming you did choose to pay in full. Since OSAP does not get released before September 1st, but McMaster knows how much you'll be getting, your payment agreement should show the balance due on September 1st as being everything you owe them MINUS THE FIRST OSAP INSTALLMENT. So that is what you have to pay by Sept. 1st - the "balance due" on your payment agreement. You then have until Sept. 30th time to get the first installment of OSAP added to your account (and thus completing your payment). You do that starting September 4th or 5th by going to MUSC where you 'pick up your loan' -but it's more like instructing them to credit your student account.

So it's basically a two-step process. The balance due on your agreement is due by Sept.1st and the OSAP portion is due by Sept. 30 (but you should 'pick it up' in the first half of September).
