I usually never write United off in the league, but this year they honestly don't seem like contenders for the top spot. They may be a good side when all their first choice players are healthy and Rooney is in form, but teams shouldn't rely on such favourable situations or 1/2 key players. United lack the key to title contention...depth.
The leagues gonna prob look like
Chelsea
Man City
Arsenal
Man Utd
Everyone Else
Liverpool

Arsenal won't win anything until they start getting positive results against teams like Chelsea, Man Shitty, and ManUtd. Until then, they'll be eternally damned to fourth in the table.

Anyways, let us relive the glory that is the Liverpool fail that occurred this morning

agreed with the liverpool bit

but do you really think this is the worst Utd team for 20-odd years? Coming fourth would be the worst PL finish we've had since 1990/91.
We lost the league by a point last year, and if you compare our team last season to where it is now, the only changes are that Berbatov's form has picked up, and Nani's been consistently good. sure Rooney's lost form, but you know what they say about form and class...

Just looking at past seasons:

06/07 - 17 points at this stage
07/08 - 17 points at this stage
08/09 - 15 points
09/10 - 19 points

this season - 14 points, 5 points off top.. Given the fact that we've already played Everton, a team that has a history of bothering us, Liverpool, although yes they are struggling, & Fulham, another team that historically bothers us. We're only 5 goals behind Chelsea. This team can challenge for the title, however they will not win the league for a few reasons.

1) They are in a transitional period, as they were last season

2) They are lacking leaders in the squad, again because of the transition

3) The defense is lacking cohesion, lets face it Ferdinand & Van der Sar are past their best. Evra has had a hard time since the world cup, Vidic can't single handedly marshal the defense and the right back position has been lacking quality for a while.

4) We have not had a natural goalscorer or poacher since van Nistelrooy.

5) Carrick and Anderson has really been off form this season, making our midfield less cohesive.

6) Valencia has been missed on the right, and the lack of wingers has really exposed the team.

Seeing what has happened with Liverpool makes me wish the same would happen with Man United. Because although there has been claims of a huge transfer kitty since the departure of ronaldo. It does not seem like Fergie wants to spend.

Also I hope that if Rooney were to leave at all, he leaves soon while the team is still in transition.

LOL that's true; they're missing a leader though. They have the talent, but things just aren't working out for them. Maybe playing their newer players more often would help them out, but at this point they aren't doing a very good job.

get those a-holes out and we'll be back in business. going from a profit in the hundreds of millions to a debt in the billions, not being able to spend, having to lose our top players for the good of the club, they're the worst thing that's ever happened to Utd.

I think Roo's getting a bit big for his boots :\ apparently he rejected a 160k contract offer and is holding out for a 200k offer.

nothing SAF can't fix.

At least he's not like Balotelli.

The whole deal with Rooney, it got me thinking. Where could he possibly go?

Pull a Tevez and go to Manchester City?
- Them Abu Dhabi dudes have the money that Rooney wants, that's for sure
- A big transfer signing will alleviate the debt problems at United
- Will Sir Alex stand for that? I doubt it.
- Extreme case scenario: crazy Utd fan kills the Glazers and the whole organization will be out of control.

Chelsea?
- Abramovich is rich, but not that rich
- Will Sir Alex stand for that? I doubt it.
- Nicolas Anelka = "Le Sulk"
- He'll get mentoring from John Terry on how to shack up with your fellow England teammate's SO.
- London is a fancier city than Manchester

Arsenal?
- The dudes who run Arsenal (the board + Arsene) won't splash that money out for him, since they're really big on running the team financially sound
- Will Sir Alex stand for that? I doubt it.
- IMO, will make a good pairing with Chamakh. Then they can get rid of that dude who's made out of glass (RVP) and that dude with a Kanye-sized ego (Nicklas Bendtner)
- London is fancier than Manchester

Do the unthinkable and go to Liverpool?
- The Red Sox bought them out of debt, and they'll probably be looking at buying cheap and shedding dead wood (i.e. Milan Jovanovic)
- Bringing Rooney in will make Torres expendable, and rightly so, because Torres isn't doing so well.
- Will Sir Alex stand for that? ABSOLUTELY NOT. HE HATES LIVERPOOL MORE THAN ANYTHING.
- Rooney is a boyhood Everton fan. Hopefully he'll be smart enough not to join the red (or dark) side.

Wait until he's free of his contract in 18 months and come back to Everton?
- If the board plus Sir Alex decide on letting him go, it'll be for a fee, and Everton won't come close to having the money for that.

Blackpool?
- It's a seaside town....

Bolton?
- LOL. Why did I just put this down...

Go outside England?
- Perhaps. But an entirely new culture, language. The steering wheel is on the left side. The roads are completely opposite to England's. No more steak and kidney pies...

As of now, it just seems really unlikely he'll go anywhere. I won't be surprised if he has a change of heart and stays, because that's where he should be.
