I've only owned one laptop and it's the one I'm using now. Bought it myself.
OP: Save money for the textbooks instead if you don't need such a powerful computer.

I got mine when I graduated hs. My Nanny told me to get anything I wanted so I got a Macbook Pro 15" and she bought it for me! Great gift.

lenovo thinkpad w520
incredible specs. good battery life. very, very solid build.
will come to $1900 but wait for canada day or august and ull see a 25% off coupon on the main website.
..as for $1500 being a ton of money, i know a lot of people whos $600-700 HPs died after second year...requiring them to purchase another laptop. My 2.5 year old Lenovo on the other hand still runs better than some new laptops on the market, and still has 6-7 hours battery life too

just because you pay a ton more doesnt mean you wont have bad luck with the laptop failing. save your money.

During easter lenovo had a 35% coupon for the w520 and I was able to configure a w520 for around $1200 and the specs were incredible, of course this laptop would be more suitable for engineers due to the quadro card rather than gaming if that's what you would prefer.
