That and servers actually get a paid minimum wage across the board here and do not make their living off tips like many servers in the U.S. do. The minimum wage laws are different in the U.S. and as far as I know differ across states. Some servers get paid like $2.50 an hour in the U.S. and thus most of what they make comes from tips which is partly why in North America it is customary to always tip a certain percentage of the bill. I/my family generally tip when we go out for a meal but not tons of money, and only if the service was actually good. I agree though, they're getting paid to do their job. Generally though the servers at our favourite places we frequent are really nice and do a great job so we leave the tip for a little something extra.

Tiffany Falls is close and nice. If it is a nice day take the bus out and go for a walk. Work up an appetite on your walk then hit any of the cool places on the way back.
If you are out there, you can follow the Bruce trail to some pretty cool places. And it is also not a huge walk if you don't want it to be. The Bruce trail empties out into a lot of different places.
You can take the bus and walk a little bit, but if you have a car it is easy.
Dont count out places like that. People always go to a restaurants or other fancier stuff. You have to get dressed up and be all uncomfortable. Going on a relaxed hike means you can wear comfortable clothes and relax. I dont know what your situation is with her Mr. Pink, but those are my two cents.

also I know the servers where I worked made well below the general minimum wage.
If they serve alcohol, than yes it is lower. However, the minimum wage for people serving alcohol is still quite a bit.
I do tip though, in general. For anyone wondering:
WARNING, THIS CONTAINS ABOUT AS MUCH SWEARING AS YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM YOUR AVERAGE QUENTIN TARANTINO MOVIE.

IF you go to dinner and a movie (Don't do it! DON'T DO IT!) Go to the movie before dinner. Although it will SUCK (DON'T DO IT!) during the movie because you'll be sitting in the dark with someone you barely know, and other than occassionally brushing hands on the way to the popcorn you'll have NO contact (and sit in awkward silence for an hour and a half while pretending to enjoy some lame ass movie that one of you PROBABLY won't like)... At least you'll have something to talk about during dinner. If you go to dinner first, it'll be lame and awkward (Oh, uh, remember the last date we went on when we, uh, had dinner?) and then the movie will be lame and awkward as well (DON'T DO IT).
Yeah I know that's TOTALLY not what you asked, but it's truuuue.
Hamilton actually has ALOT more then the 3 aforementioned Waterfalls(Though they are possibly the closest).
This guy down here is a bit of a waterfalls geek and one of his ambitions is to photo all 195 waterfalls in Hamilton. So far he is at 90. You can check his page out:

Ya, I would have loved to get paid $2.50 per hour. When I worked as a waiter in the states, I made $5 for a 8 hr shift, even though afters tips it ended being around $100.

Bring hot chocolate in a thermos! Webster's Falls is a beautiful date site. Watch out for the ice though! Wear shoes with some grip.

Even if you aren't serving alcohol, the minimum wage is still lower for servers in general.
Many restaurants pay the servers under the table, and the servers are paid lower than minimum wage in this arrangement. Servers get paid in cash so they don't say anything, and if they're students desperate for a job they're willing to work for a dollar or two under minimum wage. I know of a number of restaurants surrounding campus that have this arrangement. I have worked a job under this arrangement myself. I got paid starting at $7/hr to run around nonstop for hours at a time with no breaks, and the food was cheap so the tips (even at 15-20%) weren't spectacular.
It would suck for a student working as a server in this arrangement to not get tipped since the customer assumes they are getting paid sufficiently for their work anyway, while the owner of the restaurant assumes the student will get tipped to make up for the lower than legal wage.
If you don't want to tip, then go to McDonalds, where they really ARE paid for doing their job anyway.
If you want service at a restaurant, then unless the service was atrocious (and the server did not do their job) then you should tip. Servers get paid less under the assumption they will make tips, at least where I worked. And often the tips are pooled and split between the server and everybody who works in the kitchen as well as the owner.

Actually...when I used to work the day shift in drive through at McDonalds I used to make decent tips. Nothing like a waiter would, but business men are generally in to lazy to reach back for their 1 or 2 dollar change and they just tell me to keep it lol. ...Though that stopped happening as much what with the whole economy explosion thing... :(
