so i was just wondering about the mix of nurses and athletics.
i played rugby all of highschool, and am contemplating trying out for the mac team.
my only concern is time management,
do nursing students have time to play sports?

Hey Sara,
You will be busy during first year but you can do it! A number of nursing students were involved in athletics. I would definitely say try it out - see if you can manage, and if you can't...well...
One issue: nursing students have class early mornings. This can interfere with scheduled training times. You MUST go to clinical and PBL - they are not optional as they are small group classes and you get marked on your participation.

so, i have another question!
how much do nursing students spend on books per year (specifically 1st year)?
my grandma has offered to pay for my books, but she wants to know an approximate number.

It depends on how much you buy. The first year book list is huuuge! That being said, you will use most of those books throughout the full 4 years. You will end up spending between $800 to $1300 dollars on books. Usual amount is around $1000.

Briz,
1'' will not be large enough for the following classes if you want to keep the entire course together:
PBL, Clinical and Anatomy
A good idea is to separate courses by "midterm". For instance. Anatomy lasts the entire year. Buy one 2''+ binder and one 1" for this course. From Sept to midterm keep the material in the 1''. After your midterm, move it into the 2" and keep from midterm to final exam in the 1''.

NUBS = Nursing Undergraduate Buddy System!
You can sign up to have an upper year nursing student help you out! You should have received information about it in a package sent to you from Nursing

Can anyone in nursing tell me about the nursing courses you take first year? Do you do clinical hours? and how hard is first year overall?
Also... how many guys are there in your year of the program? I am a guy going into nursing... so just wondering... =p

I've applied already... to both mac nursing and life sciences for next september. However, i think a career in nursing would be more enjoyable than anything i could do with a life sciences degree, so i think i'm pretty set on that. =]
On the other hand, I'm curious to see how males are precieved in the nursing profession... due to their small numbers. =p
