Thats definitely illegal. The landlord needs to give you notice (I beleive 24 hours) before he can arrive on the premesis and enter the dwelling.

Yeah, Mr. Takis did the same thing. Occasionally he did call, but I believe he did come in when I wasn't there one day, but my roomate was, he never knocked and just came in. If he did call, he'd call like an hour or two before he showed up. Nowhere near 24 hours. :/ |

You know, it doesn't surprise me to hear stories like these. Students are probably not the most likely tenants to know their rights or who to complain to.
I would contact the off-campus resource centre to find out exactly what to do if your landlord is entering the property without notice.

I got myself a room in a renovated house near Leland and Whitney last Wednesday. Partially furnished, clean, hardwood floored, large-enough basement room for $400 w/ utilities, wireless, and AC included. 
It's miles better than the other ones I saw that day.

 I'm actually looking into a place thats 360/mth with utilities, basement apartment style; about a 15 minute walk from the campus. I'm gonna check it out on Welcome Day, so i'm excited!
