That's lucky, all you have to do it call in and get reserved seating. I envy you.

Quick question...does getting a waiver for a course mean you're guarenteed a spot? Or is it just to allow you to get the course on SOLAR?

I think the reserved seating is the 5% of the seats that are closed to everyone. They do this for that exact reason, some people don't get into their required courses. The University is not allowed to keep you from graduating meaning that they are not allowed to extend the normal amount of time that is required to graduate (unless you opt for that).

I don't think you can get a spot in the reserved seating if you don't require the course. However there may still be closed seats because other faculties/years haven't chosen yet.

That is my understanding if reserved seating.

As for the prerequisite waiver, I don't think you are guaranteed a spot. If the course is required you can get a reserved seating though.

Hmm...so if I'm shadowing a program, the courses wouldnt be "required" per se....but if I explain that to the department/faculty, that I'm shadowing a program and NEED those courses...do you think they'll cave in and give up a spot?

They just might. It's worth a shot. Just present your case and show how much you want to reach your goal, but I wouldn't blatantly beg as it doesn't look good since it can be mistaken for whining.

Sigh. I don't know if I'll call/e-mail. I'm not sure if it makes sense to really fight for an elective.

What exactly would you say in an e-mail for example?

Well, it depends on if you need the elective or not. If you are just using it as an elective you probably won't get a seat. But if you need it to shadow, entry into a program, for graduate school, etc... they may be more lenient and offer you a seat. Key word being "may". It's always worth a try if you actually need the course for something.

I e-mailed the prof and he replied really quickly.
I also e-mailed the advisors, no reply yet.
I did call the department, got a reply right away. They are processing the waiver this morning, so I'll probably try to get into the course after lunch.

I emailed about getting into a course that I didn't take last year that I need to take this year to stay in my program, and they said to keep trying, and to call in July after it opens for the first years and they'll see if there's any spots left, and save it for me.
