Chatr LAUNCHED! (New provider)
Quote:
The awaited launch of the new wireless mobile provider, Chatr, official launched today, July 28th, in Canada. The company plans to offer Canadians unbeatable deals for unlimited talk and text - on a trusted network. Like WIND Mobile, Chatr will work on a zone-based system and charge customers accordingly.
|
Plans are pretty... meh.
Theres only 2 to choose from $35 (unlimited talk) or $45 (unlimited talk & text)...
I personally think that $35 is pretty expensive for a lower end company with less coverage... Coverage is also alright, but nothing special... Check out the link below for pictures and stuff (and more info)

These companies kind of make me lol. Oh we're going to come out and compete with Rogers/Bell/Telus and offer something better but yet they fail to deliver.
Why would I switch when I can get a better plan from Rogers and much better coverage, not to mention a wider variety of phones, and cheaper.
These new companies are hardly offering competition to the big 3. Now instead of just 3 companies with the same old shit we have 6, plus the 3 subsidiaries of the big 3 all with approximately the same offerings.

If you view the page's source code, you can see that chatr is indeed a subsidiary of Rogers.
Just an fyi.

Okay so that makes 5 companies and 5 subsidiaries then.
They might as well just have one wireless provider and be done with it.

Ye basically.
WIND and Mobilicity are the only ones operating on their own. WIND has some tempting plans for the cheap prices, good to get if you live in a WIND area (full area around mac is WIND zone)

Typical Rogers: "Let's create a new service to beat Wind by charging more for exactly the same thing and not offering any form of data"
I'll pass

These plans are primarily for those heavy talker users and to be perfectly neutral, they're pretty good COMPARED TO Bell/Telus/Rogers. Rogers created this subsidiary to compete with the new entrants and nothing more. That's why their coverage is the exact same coverage as those of the new entrants. For me though, I like my plan because I don't go over my minutes and I like what I get for what I'm paying so I wouldn't switch. But for those that need like 1000 daytime minutes, ChatR and any of the other new entrants are for them.

Hmm...
I just looked into this and they might actually have a case, but it'll be really hard to prove anything unless Rogers actually succeeds in killing Wind and Mobilicity, and by that point it really wont matter if they win the lawsuit or not.

its not as competitive with WINDs network as you think. The plans are very different. I pay $20 a month for unlimited text and 100 minutes local (which is the entire wind zone), all contract free. This is far better than rogers offers. Chatr competes much more with mobilicity, which offers the unlimited plans. This could wipe out Mobilicity, if it loses the law suit, but i don think it could kill Wind.

Wind actually has a current promotion of free unlimited text for 1yr on the $15 plan
