G20 Protest in Toronto goes out of hand

A roving band of violent G20 protesters has taken over the streets of Toronto, setting fire to a police cruiser and smashing windows, as terrified people run for cover.

Wow, I still can't believe that its happening in peaceful Toronto, and on Friday I was just working there on queen st. And now the banks, cars, small stores are smashed and huge riot is breaking out right now.

Update: police car is on fire and they are doing nothing about it.
Update: the Easton Centre has been put on LOCKDOWN. Everyone has been forced to leave the mall while they close it up and protect the stores inside.

Because violent "protest" gets you places.

Idiots. They make themselves look terrible and they make the peaceful protesters look terrible by association.

Some fool had a sign saying "Revolution is the solution" with a picture of Mao on it, advocating the collapse of capitalism or some crap. These people are ridiculous.

And this is still probably going to be less expensive and less damaging than the Olympics...

I don't see the point of rioting. They aren't being very productive.

Only in Canada. Hard to imagine the same thing happening if this summit was held somewhere in China.

I think it was sort of imvited. I mean if officials disn't make such a HUGE issue of it before it even began, people wouldn't feel so eager to rise up to expectation. See olympics for an example of how ignoring a protest just allowed it to fizzle out.

I think the organizers/law enforcement should take some responsability for this.

In china or the USA, if you trash and burn the police cruiser like that you would be shot.
