I lived in Keyes last year and I brought a fan from home. I prefer my room to be cool - better for concentrating and sleeping in my opinion. We did have A/C but I found it warm in my room and sometimes it wasn't on when it should have been so the fan helped a lot. I also had the reduced meal plan and did some of my own cooking. I brought a George Foreman grill and used it a lot too. Our suite came with a microwave but we had to provide our own dishes/pots & pans/cutlery etc. I also had a small bar fridge in my room to keep a few adult beverages and other food items chilled as the main fridge just wasn't big enought for 4 people.

In any traditional style rez (brandon in your case) you CANT bring any hotplates, microwaves, kettles in your room, however all those will be provided in the common room on your floor.
I had a kettle in my room, its convenient and most CA's dont care/ won't see it in your room.

I definitely recommend a fan no matter which residence you live in. It can get warm and uncomfortable in your room even in winter and having the fan really helps.
When I lived in Hedden in first year when we came back from Winter break the whole building was boiling hot. All the windows had been closed all break and I guess the heating was on and it was stuffy and hot, it was like being in a sauna as soon as you walked into your room. Everyone came back bundled up and walked into their rooms and were hit with the heat. It was gross. That was when I became really glad I had decided to keep the fan I had brought in on Welcome Week. It was stuffy and uncomfortable for about two weeks while the rooms had to air out.

Oh dear God the same thing happened to me last year in Hedden. And here I thought it was my roommate who left the heat on lol. I had a kettle in my room which was quite convenient for tea, hot chocolate, instant coffee, soup; it's just nice to have if you're sick / don't want to spend money on tea/coffee at Commons or other places.

Ugh. It was like that in Bates too.
Very unpleasant.
*EVERYONE SHOULD CHECK THE HEATER IN THEIR ROOMS BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE WINTER BREAK*
Also, those sticky things they give you to hang posters or whatnots lose their adhesive-ness-ish-thing after the heat wave.
Given I had like, 6 posters, a wall calendar and my timetables stuck on the walls, it was such a pain having to re-stick them to the walls... It also bent one of my favourite posters ;__;

My poor poster of Megan Fox ripped a bit after I came back in January during first year because it fell of the wall. I was so sad. :(

You're not allowed to use sticky tact :( They'll give you a bunch of pads of little white stickies when you move in which you can use to stick stuff to the walls. I actually find them a lot better than sticky tact

I used sticky tack. I don't think they are against the rules, but they are frowned upon because they may (keyword "may") leave a blue mark. But I just rub the sticky tack and nothing was left on the wall. Use at your own discretion.

Heyy everyone
Kind of a dumb question, but I'm assuming that students bring their own blankets and pillows, etc?
It's just that there is so much emphasis on doing things yourself and not relying on staff :-)
