No lorend is right. If a C.A is suspicious that a violation is taking place in your room, they can call security. They will then assess if there is reasonable cause to believe the law is being violated and then they can enter.

According to your Residence Agreement, Housing reserves the right to have staff enter your room

- to provide repair service or room maintenance inspections; to conduct periodic health and safety checks of room conditions
- to conduct weekly or monthly fire inspection tests in apartments/suites;
- when there is reasonable cause to believe an emergency situation has arisen that requires entry;
- when a student vacates a room for a break period (eg. December break);
- when there is reasonable cause to believe that university regulations are, and/or the law is being violated

No they can't. I looked it up ( working on my law degree) and they can only enter under certain circumstances. Read the criminal code.

Easy. Security can enter. The C.A's go with them.

Also, residence is a bit different than a private dwelling so you can't really apply the criminal code in the usual way to this situation.

This is especially true since you sign a contract agreeing to certain terms which includes allowing Housing staff to enter your room under the circumstances I outlined in my last post.

Geez people, just don't do anything illegal. The only reason you'd need to be worried about C.A.s or Security entering your room is if you're doing anything against the law/rules.

Exactly. Stay away from anything that could get you in trouble and you don't have to worry about who has what permission to enter your room or not.

If residence closes down in December and April after mid-terms and finals, where are the international students supposed to live during the break?
What are the options?
Any way to stay in the residence (extended contract or something)?

Thanks

Someone told me before that they make arrangements for you during those 2-3 weeks holidays, for example, arrange with off campus students to provide temporary housing and such.

You should probably contact housing right now to inquire though.

I can't think of anyone off the top of my head, but it might help if you start a new thread with the title, people are more likely to run into it, than checking this thread!

during the christmas break International students have to find off-campus housing, the school will help you locate somewhere to stay or you can stay with friends that you might make during the school year; bottom-line: no students on campus during the christmas break.

From experience, I agree with everyone who says avoid confrontations with CAs. It's not that you get into piles of trouble for one or two minor altercations, but we are students (and therefore impoverished), and it doesn't take long for a $75 dollar fine for drinking underage to be really aggrivating. Or even a $10 clean up fine for that matter...

It's a regular twin size, maybe a little bit smaller with the width.
