Open up your Personal Timetable (via mugsi) and at the top in the yellow box does it say anything about that class? Does it say you need to section yourself in a lab? Or that tutorials/labs will be assigned?

You have core classes (which are your lectures where a professor is at the front talking and you're taking notes), and then you have tutorials which are once a week (usually) and are the time when you ask most of your questions since you have a T.A. (teaching assistant) in a room with only 10-30 people, so since there are less people you get to ask questions, get help, and review class material with your T.A. and the rest of the group in your tutorial. You also usually hand in your papers/essays during tutorial to your T.A. who marks them. The prof usually doesn't mark your assignments, they just lecture.

Labs are in science classes and is where you do practical application of what you've learned. I'm not in science though so I can't say much about them

Thanks for the response Chad...It finally makes sense now... how would I know however if a tutorial is once a week or every other week??

soc sci bio has no lab, which is why you can't see or add one.

Luck of the draw. Check on SOLAR often and see if a spot opens up, because people do change their minds about their electives. But if you don't get a spot, don't worry about it because it's just an elective. Try and find something else that interests you so you can do well.

They're not elective for everyone; don't forget they are core classes for others too!

You best bet: checking back often...although not obsessively...

No idea.

It may mean they're changing the tutorials around, so no one is able to access them right now.

i need an opinion or preferably many many opinions. as of now i have thursdays off first term and fridays off second term. as a result of this i have 3 classes in a row, 3 different times throughout the year (plus an additional class later in the same day). should i keep the days off or spread out the classes as best as i can? can anyone speak from personal experience?

Hi ppl!
For me, Thursday, Every other week, is going to be 3rd degree torture.
I would have 5 classes and a lab in one go!!!!! So basically id have classes starting from 10:30am to 17:20pm with only the regular 10 min breaks! i mean WTF!!! It goes like this-

MATH 1H03 C02
TSH B128
10:30 - 11:20

PHYSICS 1D03 C03
ABB 102
11:30 - 12:20

ENGINEER 1C03 C04
MDCL 1102
12:30 - 13:20

MATH 1N03 C03
TSH B128
13:30 - 14:20

E O W
PHYSICS 1D03 T13
TSH B129
14:30 - 16:20

CHEM 1E03 C03
JHE 376
16:30 - 17:20
Im going to be quite zonked out and dead by the end of such a day.

In contrast, tuesdays have only 2 classes(with an additional lab EOW).

The only saving grace in all this is that the timetable generated for me is conflict free. Do you recommend that I go through the painful process of modifying my timetable to try and evenly distribute classes???

Are those bloody thursdays managable? Does anyone have a similar situation?

Thanks
Nikhil

christzak, i would keep it that way. three classes in a row (ie three hours), i found is completely manageable. personally, i hate having the class-break combo throughout the day.

nikhil, eeep! i would see what i could do...9.5 hours of class in a day is ROUGH...but if you think it's better to have fewer hours one day a week to balance it out maybe it would be better. it's up to you.
