Matthews isn't the most ideal for those who want to socialize because it has an awkward layout. Moulton's cool and I've never seen the inside of Wally.

I lived in Matthews for two years. THere's lots of socialization that goes on and the layout isn't all that awkward once you figure it out. It's just that the hallways aren't straight like the other residences.

To address a couple people's concerns. West Quad isn't bad, by any means. So don't feel bad if you get a West Quad res. We are all also obviously biased about the residences we lived in, partied in, etc. Case in point, me with McKay, Ferreira with Whidden etc.
Except McKay and Hedden are pretty much the bomb.

Rohan, you're not allowed to leave Whidden out of that list.
Or I'll fight you. To the death.

i lived in matthews this year and i was a room ambassador so i was asked this question a lot.
pros: the rooms are big, and the windows are probably the biggest of any building. also, the fourth floor has skylights.
--> the rooms are quite big, especially some with an extra L shaped window, a good place to push you bed for more room.
--> the quad. matthews is L shaped with a huge quad with benches. great for hanging out in good weather, playing frisbee, snowball fights etc.
--> super close to Thode Library, the engineering and science library as well as the main science buildings.
--> hallway layout: really unique from any other building, two quads of four rooms each, with two common bathrooms between. these become a great place to hang out and you become really close with the people who live near you.
--> right beside the GO Transit, Greyhound and Coach Canada pickup on campus. if you take these buses home, it's super convenient
Cons:
--> old building. no air cond. and the bathrooms are old.
--> common rooms only on the first floor
--> no elevator makes living on the fourth floor a pain when you have groceries or stuff to move in/out
--> distance from the Commons building (main place to get food) and the Athletic centre

The Housing website ('Residence Admissions' >> 'Important Dates') says that the room assignments will be completed around end of June to mid-July.

hello,
I am an international student from Malaysia and
I had been offered an admission to the McMaster residence.
I got the Bates residence and Regular mean plan A.
the payment that i shoud pay is CAD5830(for Bates) and CAD2900(for
meal plan).
So the total is CAD8730.
(the other fees eg tuition fee are being paid by my sponsor, only
these two payment i need to pay my self).
There are monthly payment plan(mpp).
However, i didnt understand with the calcultaion,
can you show me the amount of payment that i shoud pay for each plan?
How about the entrance scholarships? I achieved 91% in my grade12.
I really hope that you can help me in this matter.
thanks.
