I went looking for a detailed plan attached to the minutes of the SRA meeting where the renovation was approved and I found nothing, at least nothing publically released. I have heard mention of a “plan” but it doesn’t sound the least bit comprehensive. For all intents and purposes the bar is being completely re-started from scratch. There will be a new name, image, menu, floor plan. So, where is the new business plan?
At its very basic a business plan should contain a number of sub documents; a marketing plan, an operations plan and a financial plan. The business goals should be outlined as well as the plan for reaching those goals? Every single choice being made should be directed towards achieving those goals. Now its good to know there was a concept used in the logo development but the concept seems inconsistent. You have a bar name that is very obvious an attempt at a Cheers type concept, an “everyone is welcome” concept if you will. Whereas the concept used for the logo is one of “middle of opposite extremes”. The two concepts don’t jive, they're inconsistent.
So, I ask once again, where is the plan?

Oh I almost forgot, I was sort of concerned when you mentioned over here that there "appears" to be no plan regarding the whole awarding of a 400k Contract to IRA MacDonald. At that time it seemed silly to throw 400k at some random IRA people
Earlier this week I did stop by Andrew Caterine's office(Vp Finance) and asked him about the plans/documents or in other words "why was IRA chosen". The Vp Finance did have a number of notes and documents from IRA that were presented to the BOD in their meeting. There also is a tender and contract document available. IRA as it turns out is a company with pretty decent pedigree, they have worked already on Campus at Bridges, Williams Cafe in HSB and MDCL all of which are one of the more remarkable and impressively designed spots on our campus. They also have experience renovating Campus Bars in Canada and Northern USA. Apart from that they have done high end Restaurants and the Casino in Windsor.
Andrew Reckoned they were the most impressive tenders of all the companies that applied, but more importantly they had contacts in Hamilton that allowed them to negotiate city laws much more easier then any other rival, they also had this blue print where hey apparently knew how to improve the flow of people and kitchen staff in 1280. Unfortunately alot of information regarding their presentation was disseminated during the meeting itself and the discussion afterwards i.e: It is not on paper.
However the VP Finance looked pretty open to answering any questions I might have had. I was only there to verify that they do have plans and proper knowledge regarding this whole issue so that I can post it up on Insiders so I didn't stick around for long. However I would advise more people with prior knowledge of such Businesses or more telling questions to go to the VP Finances office and to grill him! If there are any discrepancies or issues you guys can bring them here and spread the word! The difference then however would be that we would be in a position of superior knowledge regarding our criticisms if we have any that is, because for a layman like myself I was reasonably impressed/confident that IRA aren't a scam/unsuitable. But then again I still reaaallyy think that we could have found some other way to make Quarters Profitable again, $400,000 is MASSIVE amount of money
