do not get a sony laptop, there garbage. Two of my friends had the 16 inch FW and both ending up with the hinges breaking and the frame beginning to crack. The best laptop without a doubt is the 13 macbook pro. The battery is amazing, performance is great and with snow leopard around the corner it will get a lot better. I understand that its slightly overpriced but theres a way around it. I went into bestbuy, specifically the one in hamilton. I told them to match the 1299 price and to give me the free ipod touch. I had to argue with the manager for a bit but he ended up giving me the ipod touch for free without the rebate and agreed to the 1299 price. I sold the ipod touch for 240, resulting in the laptop costing me 1059 plus tax. For that price no pc laptop comes close to the specs, battery life and quality of the 13 macbook pro.

Apple will cover it for up to 3 years if it happens to you, regardless of the warranty, but you still lose your computer for a week or 2 to get it repaired.

Dude, I work for Apple's tech support, and I get at least 2 calls a day every day about that exact thing. I'm one of about 60 people at my level in my site, and there's 5 sites. I'll let you do the math

Get an Modified/Upgraded Dell Inspiron(Using the online modification buy tool at dell.ca) or a Dell Studio. When I was getting my laptop last year Dell had the option of 10 Solid, 5-6 Metallic and 3-4 Graffiti Design colors(With Sketches/Art by professional artists) even on their cheapest $400 Inspiron!

Because jesus thinks that is probably what happened, but is still entertaining the possibility that it could have all been a dream.

laptop
although i love my macbook and would never buy another pc, i think you should get a newer dell.
eng sudents need lots of programs for certain classes and some dont come for mac.
If you do really want a dell you can get a macbook pro (cause they are the best laptops hands down) and install vista on it using bootcamp. this is quite easy to do and works very well.

Reason being, I am thinking about getting a macbook fairly soon as my laptop. My desktop which I will take with me runs XP and Ubuntu. (though ubuntu is going soon, and I will be playing in gentoo). Will the macbook be compatible for the various OS's? I know it's based on Unix, so I am just hoping the hardware compatibility is there.
Furthermore... and maybe this should be in a new thread.... I am planning on going into the field of Software Engineering second year. Will the Macbook hold up to the compatibility I need for upper-year courses? I am trying to make a wise investment here, so I need to figure these things out.
thanks

For your Engineering questions. Yes you do dabble in C#, that was the ONLY thing we did. We just wrote lots and lots of different codes in C#. We never actually went in and did anything in linux, that would be more of a second year course after you have specialised and all.

It was a reference to reeves' post that it takes 1-2 weeks to fix the top case. It doesn't.
