I agree with Kenneth...I can’t see Chicago trading Patrick Sharp this year. Chicago’s going be a cup contender this year. However, like Asad, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sharp was dealt. Sharp has probably attracted the most interest from clubs, and Chicago really needs to unload on some of those contracts. If the Leafs do end up acquiring Sharp, the Leafs are going be a dangerous club down the stretch.
As for Sopel, I wouldn’t mind him. We’ll just have another NHL caliber defenseman. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have every defenseman in the NHL playing for the Leafs lol :p
Anyways...we have our hands full with Washington tonight. Here is the Leafs lineup for tonight:
TORONTO
L1: Ponikarovsky/Stajan/Kessel
L2: Blake/Grabovski/Hagman
L3: Stempniak/Primeau/Kulemin
L4: Mayers/Wallin/Orr
D1: White/Beauchemin
D2: Kaberle/Komisarek
D3: Exelby/Finger
G: Toskala
Schenn’s a healthy scratch tonight.

lol ottawa and leafs win while habs lose.
leafs only 4 pts out of 8th which is temporarily being held by the habs.
leafs are 9-3-2 in their last 14 and have points in 10 of their last 13 games.

Gotta love the Overtime loss point. Without it, the standings in the East look like this:
1. New Jersey - 45 PTS
2. Washington - 40 PTS
3. Buffalo - 38 PTS
4. Pittsburgh - 44 PTS
5. Boston - 32 PTS
6. Atlanta - 32 PTS
7. Ottawa - 32 PTS
8. Montreal - 30 PTS
9. Philadelphia - 28 PTS
10. NY Rangers - 28 PTS
11. NY Islanders - 22 PTS
12. Florida - 22 PTS
13. Toronto - 22 PTS
14. Tampa Bay - 22 PTS
15. Carolina - 14 PTS
Toronto is 8 points out of the playoffs and behind Florida and the Islanders because of the games played to wins ratio.
Anyway, back to reality: granted there's over half a season to play, but you're making it seem like four points is a walk in the park. You're fogetting that teams like Philly and NY Rangers are fighting for that playoff spot with the Leafs. The Flyers and Rangers are just more well rounded to make the playoffs.

Yes but you are forgetting there are teams that will be dropping out of playoff spot, like Atlanta (most likely), Ottawa (suspect, once their road games start), and Mtl is just in there because Price and Halak are carrying them, wonder how long that will last.
as for the overtime point, its part of the game so deal with it. You do not know if that is how the standings would have looked like if OT point did not exist. Some teams might have played more desperately in OT to grab the 2 pts, or in regulation games. Most of the teams tend to just try and drag the game to OT if it is tied in middle-late 3rd period. So you do not know if that is exactly how the games would have played out if point did not exist.

Considering how most of the games are played against same-Conference teams (and often times, divisional rivals), it really doesn't make any sense for a team to drag a game into overtime and give another Eastern conference team the guaranteed extra point.
And for the record, I personally don't mind the OTL point at all. Frankly, I'd rather see the 3-2-1-0 point system: 3 pts for a regulation win, 2 for an OT win, 1 for an OT loss, 0 for a regulation loss.

Yes but sometimes it does not matter, liek when a top team faces a bottom feeder team (1st-4th place vs 10th-15th place). The only teams that really dont wanna give the point away are the teams that are fighting for a playoff spot (6-11th) late in the season or (6-15th) early-mid.
