I would agree with you on Blake.

Now for TO to become a good team, they are rebuilding and it will take time, just gotta be patient. This is their first year, it can't be done in 1 season.

Kessel is looking really good so far, he is a point/game player atm on pace for a 40+ goal season. It is not easy to acquire star players especially under the salary cap era.

okay fine hagman has been on FIRE.

yeh re-building will take a ton of time... hopefully they don't make stupid mistakes... and these days everyone just about money so yeh its hard signing players because they will obviously take the high offers, but leafs got to make themselves look more respectable so maybe, just maybe players won't mind being underpaid... and they make millions anyway... like thats not enough...

7-2-1 in L10, tied for best in the east. 5 pts out of 8th playoff spot after starting 0-7-1 is pretty good.

Tjhe leafs really need to start playing 60 minute games. none of this "we have a lead at the end of 2 so we'll float" BS. Their last 2 games they blew possible shutouts because of it. And last night it almost cost them the game.

Its some kind of Toronto legacy I guess. The Jays do the same thing all the time in baseball.

RE: 'the leafs are only 5 pts out of the 8th place.'

Forget just the five points, it's not that simple. We've also got SIX TEAMS in front of us that we've got to pass with half the teams on any given night usually getting 'leaf points'. Do the math. We don't have much of a playoff chance...

Yeah, if those FIFTY-ONE games were against NYI, the Leafs wouldn't have a problem making the playoffs. Tonight was a reality check courtesy of the Bruins. The fact is, teams are starting to & going to pay closer attention to the Kessel line & this spells trouble for TO. Phil has done the bulk of the scoring since returning from injury and if you can minimize the impact of his line you in turn reduce Toronto's chances of winning considerably.

we beat atlanta too and they are currently in the playoff position.

Anyways, today's loss came against one of the best eastern teams (Boston) who had a 4 day rest, while leafs were playing their 3rd game in 4th night.

so yes FIFTY-ONE games stil left and anything can happen. Other teams can go on slump, a trade might be made (dont be surprised if Burke makes a run at Patrick Sharp, Chicago will be in cap trouble at the end of the season), hot streaks, anything can happen. 51 is still a big number for games remaining.

Kessel can make room for himself even with a defender on him 24/7, but i can't really say the same thing about his linemates, so we wil have to see. Not to mention, Kessel has been played hard by the other team's defense already.

Why would Chicago trade Patrick Sharp right after they have him a 5 year contract extension, and who would Toronto give up that would not move them back a step or two.

Brian Campbell - 7.1m
Toews/Kane - 6.5m each
Duncan Keith - 5.5m
Soep - 2.3m
Barker - 3m
SeaBrook - 3.5m
Versteeg, Bolland and Byfgilen - 9m total
Huet - 5.6m
Patrick Sharp - 3.9m
Hossa - 5.275m
thats for 2010-2011 season and that is 58m for just 13 players, and thats already above the cap for next season, so im 90% sure that chicago will want to get rid of a lot of cap space. They will obviously try and move Brian campbell, not to mention they have quite a few UFA next year as well so they might want to resign some of those.

CHI will probably making trades to dump salary (wont get equal value for their players). As for whats leafs have to offer? I can see White being traded, Kaberle but CHI would probably have to add in something.

Patrick Sharp is Chicago's second best player after Kane. They'll either buyout or try to unload Huet above everyone else. Sopel's name has also been thrown around in trade rumours.
