You should know McMaster's address if you apply for OSAP. You have to mail the documents to McMaster and when you print off the documents it has the mailing address of Mac on it.

Disclaimer: This post is only half serious.
In all honesty, I'm not a fan of 1280, even knowing its name is Mac's Street Address. It's clever...but it begs the question...is it that clever?
Or more importantly, does it live up to its Predecessor?
Quarters sounded cool, even though I didn't know its whole story. Did it mean food is relatively inexpensive? (You can buy something for mere quarters) Or was it short for Headquarters? You just don't know! (lol although I'm sure someone does)
Perhaps a number like 1080 will attract all the snowboarders. Or 360, to mean "There are 360 degrees of awesome in this pub." Or 2pi to attract the nerds, like me.
EDIT: @jhan: What if someone didn't apply for OSAP?
Or someone like me, who delivers the documents personally, to SFAS? In that case I don't need to know its address to get the job done, haha.

I'm only going to post this once to explain the origins of Quarters, and then vanish to leave this stream of excellent discourse uncorrupted by an MSU VP.
Quarters was originally supposed to be "Sir Willy's Quarters" and after much ado and uproar and months of back and forth the shorter "Quarters" was settled on as a name that no one loved, but no one particularly disliked in comparison to other options at the time (the list of which no longer exists to my knowledge, I've looked everywhere for it)

Technically you should know the address to get to a place. Damn google for making this world lazy!
People should know the address because it give the specific point on the map. But yeah, these days you don't need to know anything because you have google :\

Maybe that should be your battle plan then. Adjoin something to 1280 that sounds completely ridiculous, like:
Ye Olde 1280 a-saurus
Then people will be thankful to have it be named 1280.
(Again I apologize...bit of a silly mood this evening.)
Thanks for the info KaesoPublius.
EDIT: @jhan: Pretty sure my McMaster attendance pre-dates Google-Maps and Google-Earth.
I know where McMaster is because it's HUGE, and I can see it from a mile away. You need only know the general vicinity of Mac to find it. Has anyone ever gotten lost and couldn't find Mac because "Damn, I was looking for 1270 Main, not 1280!" No, because Mac is really big.
Now is when I turn around and say "Damn post office making people rely on numbers instead of using their eyes."

Address exist for that purpose though, to find places. McMaster makes sense because it's huge, but for houses it's like "the one with the yellow garage" Lol. I could just see the confusion on the streets XD

Very true...although if you ask me, the GPS is our mutual enemy 0:
So many instances of people driving on a highway, and hearing "Turn left, now!" and veering off the road into oncoming traffic, or off into a ditch without using their eyes. To quote a great philosopher (well he's not so much a philosopher as he is homeless):
"Trust in ye box and ye lose trust in yeself." ~Mowicz
It's chaos I tell ya!

@Mowicz
360 degrees just reminds me of the CN Tower. Too many Toronto-influenced names are coming through. We muuust be proud of Hamilton.. although.. there isn't any really cool landmarks here =|

Lol, I totally forgot about the 360 thing in the CN Tower, it's a restaurant right? Never been there before.
So people really do that Mowicz? I mean, humans are pretty stupid, but really?
Maybe a waterfally kind of name?

If the place gets renamed to 1280, I would tell my friends, and also the students on my floor. What I would like to see the most: better service (waitresses/waiters/bouncers), less corruption (back door), and maybe a promotions team. I think if 1280 had a solid promotion plan with themed nights, it would really take off!

Though I feel like we saw posters everywhere, ALL THE TIME, for themed nights at 1/4s.
I dunno, if it ends up being the same kinds of people that go there that went before, it will be the same kind of place.

Absolutely. Here is one source discussing it, that I found in like 10 seconds:
http://www.therawfeed.com/2008/07/gp...idents-in.html
I'm sure there are masses of more reliable sources, but hopefully this at least shows you I'm not just blowing hot air.
If we want to make a "Hamilton-y" name, we should name it after the rapid growth in Health Care (of which, McMaster is a huge part).

Granted, it doesn't take very much to get me out to Quarters.... but here are some thoughts of mine.
First of all, I want a simple place. Staff in black polos and dress pants, and food that isnt pretentious, but hearty, somewhat healthy (aka not dripping with oil) and quickly made and served.
Next, I want to see more DJ rotation. The one thing i HATED ever since Divsa left was the house DJ they had who played hours of back to back Akon and shit. When DJ Krumbles came in he played a ton of different styles of music, and mashups and what not.
